Include the feature you were using, what happened, and any error message. For Word issues, include your Word version and whether you use Windows, Mac, or Word on the web. Remove personal or confidential information from screenshots. Never send passwords, verification codes, or API keys.

Microsoft Word add-in

RefRight works in Word for Microsoft 365 on Windows and Mac, supported desktop Word 2021/2024 versions, and Word for the web in Microsoft 365. Your organization must allow Office Store add-ins. Older desktop versions may not support every add-in feature.

  1. Open a document in Word. Select Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins → Store, search for RefRight, and select Add. If your Word version shows File → Get Add-ins instead, use that route.
  2. Open RefRight from the Word ribbon. Create a free account at RefRight registration if you do not already have one, then sign in inside the task pane.
  3. Find your reference section or select references, choose a style, review the output, and choose whether to insert or replace text in your document.

If the Store or Add button is unavailable, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator whether Office Store add-ins are enabled for your account. Include your Word version and platform when contacting support.

Google Docs help

The Google Docs add-on is currently in testing; public Marketplace installation is not yet available. Test users can open RefRight from the document's Extensions menu after Google authorization. Then sign in with a verified RefRight account. Google authorization and RefRight sign-in are separate steps.

  1. Paste journal or book references into the sidebar, using one paragraph per reference, or select reference text in the document and choose Use selection.
  2. Choose a citation style and whether to check DOIs, then select Format references.
  3. Review the bibliography and DOI report. Choose Add to end of document tab to append the result. Existing document text is not replaced.

If the preview expires or you change document tabs, format the references again before inserting. If the consent window does not open, check your browser's popup controls and retry in Chrome. For access problems, confirm that you can edit the test document and are using an authorized test account. For sign-in problems, use the password reset page.

When reporting a Google Docs issue, include your browser, the action that failed and the exact error message. Do not share a confidential document or its contents unless needed for a support request you authorize.
